About the podcast
This edition of ThePTN podcast focuses on the preparation for and the initial care of the trauma patient – ‘the first 10 minutes’. Joining Tim on the episode is Ash Lowther, one of the senior Advance Clinical Practitioners working at the MTC.
The podcast starts with the patient’s initial contact via the ATMIST call (Age, Time of incident, Mechanism of Injury, vital Signs and Treatment given), alerting the trauma team and preparing the bay ready to receive the patient. We go through factors that might alter our preparation such as the type of patient, anticipated interventions and method of transfer. We brief our team and, on patient arrival, take handover from the pre-hospital team. At each stage, we consider how the information we receive and how the situation changes will influence our plan.
